Reveal your reading
For entertainment and personal reflection only. Never use a reading for medical, investment, legal, or other important decisions.
Read the spread as a story
Past, present, and possible future are three prompts for examining a situation. Notice how the card themes connect, where they differ, and which assumptions you might be making. A future-position card is a possible reflection direction, never a promised event.
Choosing cards does not change the facts
The 78 cards are shuffled once and divided into three equal piles. Choose one pile and three different cards, then reveal them in your selected order. You can deselect a card before revealing. Difficult symbols and reversed cards can invite reflection without establishing misfortune.
About this ritual
Why are there 78 cards?
A full 78-card Rider–Waite–Smith structure: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. Strength is VIII and Justice XI. Each card receives a random upright or reversed orientation when shuffled. Interpretations vary between traditions; this is a common symbolic approach, not a single universal rule.
How are piles and cards selected?
The deck is randomly shuffled locally and split into 26, 26, and 26 cards. You choose one pile, select three different face-down cards, then reveal them in the order you selected.
What do the three positions mean?
Past, present, and possibility are reflection prompts, not fixed predictions. Both upright and reversed meanings include opportunities and difficulties. Death represents endings and transition, not a literal death prediction. Difficult cards do not establish that misfortune will occur.
